Living Water

On the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried aloud. Amid ceremonies remembering God’s provision in the wilderness, He identified Himself as the source to whom every thirsty person must come.

Thirst is not disqualification. It is the honest recognition that life cannot be sustained from within. The invitation begins wherever self-sufficiency ends.

Jesus gives three simple movements: thirst, come, drink. We acknowledge need, turn toward Christ, and receive by faith what He freely supplies.

The promise does not end with private refreshment. Rivers of living water will flow from the believer’s innermost being. Grace received becomes grace shared.

John tells us plainly that Jesus spoke of the Holy Spirit. The Christian life is not imitation of an absent teacher but participation in Christ’s life through the indwelling Spirit.

The Spirit would be given in the fullness of the glorified Christ’s finished work. The river flows through the cross, resurrection, and exaltation of Jesus.

We cannot command the Spirit, but we can stop resisting His holy work. We may confess sin, receive Scripture, yield our will, and ask the Father to fill us for love and witness.

Come thirsty, not impressive. Drink deeply of Christ, and expect His Spirit to carry life beyond you into dry places you could never renew by your own strength.
