A New Song
Psalm 96
“Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth.”
Psalm 96 (NKJV)
The command to sing a new song is addressed to all the earth. Worship is never merely private relief; it is creation’s rightful answer to the glory of its Maker.
The song carries news: proclaim the Lord’s salvation from day to day. Praise and witness belong together because delight naturally speaks of what it treasures.
Israel is called to declare God’s glory among the nations, not to hoard it. The Lord who made the heavens is worthy of worship from every people.
The gods of the peoples are idols—unable to create, save, or speak. Yet human hearts still give created things the fear, loyalty, and hope that belong to God.
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Divine majesty is not barren force; God’s power exists in perfect harmony with holiness and splendor.
Families of peoples are summoned to bring an offering and enter His courts. True worship gives God more than admiration; it yields what we possess and who we are.
Heaven, earth, sea, field, and forest join the song because the Lord comes to judge. For creation oppressed by evil, His righteous judgment is good news.
Sing the old gospel with new attention. Let today’s mercy awaken fresh praise, and carry the song into work, neighborhood, and nation until every corner of life announces that the Lord reigns.

Tozer resisted dividing life into sacred moments and spiritually empty remainder. When lived beneath God’s lordship, ordinary activity may join the worship offered in gathered praise.
Psalm 96 expands that vision to all creation and every nation. The new song proclaims salvation, rejects idols, brings an offering, and rejoices in God’s righteous reign.
A Prayer
Holy God,
Lord who made the heavens, put a new song in Your church and let all the earth hear of Your salvation.
Expose the idols that receive my misplaced trust. Fill my vision with Your strength, beauty, holiness, and righteous reign.
Receive every part of my life as an offering, and make my words and work announce Your glory. Amen.
