The Signs of Joy

Jesus begins His signs at a wedding where the wine has failed. His glory enters not only crisis and synagogue but a household celebration threatened by shame.

Mary brings the need to Jesus without dictating the method. Her instruction to the servants remains wise discipleship: do whatever He tells you.

Jesus uses stone jars associated with purification and fills them to the brim. The sign points beyond replenished hospitality toward the abundant cleansing and joy arriving in Him.

The servants participate through ordinary obedience: fill, draw, carry. They cannot create the wine, but they place their work within reach of Christ’s transforming power.

The master tastes extraordinary abundance without knowing its source. Grace often arrives before its recipients understand how near the Giver has come.

John calls this a sign. We should not stop at the gift but follow where it points—to the glory of the Word through whom creation was made and through whom it will be renewed.

Christian joy is not denial of sorrow. Cana anticipates the feast of the kingdom, while Jesus’ reference to His hour directs us toward the cross through which that feast is opened.

Bring the empty place to Christ and obey the word you already understand. Watch for signs of new creation, receive joy with gratitude, and let every gift reveal His glory.
