Always Ready
1 Peter 3:13–17
“Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you.”

Peter imagines Christians whose hope is visible enough to prompt questions. Apologetics begins in a life made distinct by the lordship of Christ.
The setting is suffering, not a comfortable debate. Believers refuse fear and retaliation because their deepest security belongs to Jesus.
Sanctify Christ as Lord in your heart. Before preparing an argument, settle the question of allegiance; witness loses its center when protecting the self becomes more important than honoring Him.
Readiness matters. Love for our neighbors should move us to understand the gospel, consider honest questions, and speak with clarity rather than hiding behind slogans.
The reason we give is for hope. Christian witness reaches beyond proving a point toward the crucified and risen Savior in whom forgiveness, resurrection, and restoration are promised.
Peter commands gentleness and respect. The manner is not decoration added after truth; it reveals whether our defense is actually governed by the Lord we proclaim.
A good conscience frees us from manipulation. We need not exaggerate evidence, conceal uncertainty, or injure an opponent in order to defend the God of truth.
Prepare one honest account of your hope. Listen carefully to the person before you, answer the question they are truly asking, and leave the outcome with God.

Lewis counseled Christian teachers to translate doctrine into the language of their hearers without diluting its meaning, and to guard against replacing the faith with their own clever ideas.
Peter gives that task its spiritual posture: Christ honored as Lord, hope understood, conscience kept clear, and truth expressed with gentleness and respect.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Lord Jesus, make the hope You have given visible in the way I endure, serve, and speak.
Deepen my understanding of the gospel and teach me to communicate it clearly. Keep pride, fear, and contempt from corrupting my witness.
Give me readiness joined to gentleness, respect, and a clear conscience. Amen.
