Eyes of the Heart
Ephesians 1:15–23
“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling.”

Paul has heard of the Ephesians’ faith in Christ and love for the saints, yet he continues praying for their sight. Genuine faith still needs deeper illumination.
He asks the Father of glory to give wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Christian understanding is personal before it is merely analytical: we learn truth in fellowship with the God who makes Himself known.
The eyes of the heart must be enlightened. We can possess correct vocabulary while remaining unable to perceive the beauty, weight, and hope of what the words announce.
Paul prays that they will know the hope of God’s calling. Hope is not vague optimism but a future summoned and secured by the God who called us into Christ.
He also wants them to see the riches of God’s inheritance among His people. The saints we find difficult are part of the treasured people in whom God intends to display His grace.
The same immeasurable power that raised Jesus from death is active toward believers. Renewal does not rest upon the strength of our imagination but upon resurrection power.
Christ is seated above every rule, authority, power, and name. No visible force defines reality more finally than the crucified and exalted Lord.
Ask for more than an answer. Ask for sight: to see your future inside Christ’s resurrection, other believers inside God’s inheritance, and the present moment beneath Jesus’ universal reign.
In Conversation with C. S. Lewis
Lewis reflected on glory as both the approval of God and transformed participation in His radiant life. He treated our deepest holy longings as invitations toward a destiny only God can fulfill.
Paul grounds that longing in revelation: the Father calls, Christ rises and reigns, and divine power works within a people being prepared as His inheritance.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Father of glory, enlighten the eyes of my heart and give me wisdom in the knowledge of You.
Let the hope of Your calling become more substantial than discouragement. Teach me to see Your people as an inheritance shaped by grace.
Fix my vision upon the risen Christ and the immeasurable power at work toward all who believe. Amen.
