The Hope within Us
1 Peter 1:3–9
“He has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Peter blesses God in the midst of hardship because mercy has given believers new birth into a living hope.
This hope lives because Jesus lives. It is not a favorable prediction about circumstances but participation in the resurrection life of Christ.
An inheritance is kept in heaven for God’s people, and God’s power guards His people for it. The promise and the pilgrims are both held by divine faithfulness.
Trials grieve us for a little while. Peter neither denies sorrow nor gives it eternity; suffering has a bounded season within the larger salvation ready to be revealed.
Tested faith becomes more precious than perishable gold. Trial does not automatically mature everyone, but faith that continues to trust Christ emerges clarified and brings praise to Him.
These believers love Jesus without having seen Him. Christian joy is personal: unspeakable gladness rises from communion with the unseen yet living Lord.
The outcome is the salvation of their souls—the completion of God’s restoring work in the whole person, not escape into a thin or impersonal existence.
Let living hope enter the place where fear has predicted only loss. You are guarded, your inheritance is kept, and the Christ you love will bring faith to sight.
In Conversation with C. S. Lewis
Lewis described heaven not as the flattening of personhood but as its holy fulfillment in God, where the creature becomes fully what divine love intended.
Peter grounds that promised fulfillment in resurrection and mercy. The inheritance is secure because the living Christ has given His people a living hope.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for causing me to be born again into living hope.
Guard my faith through present trials and keep sorrow within the horizon of salvation. Deepen my love for Christ whom I do not yet see.
Carry me to the imperishable inheritance You have kept, until faith becomes sight and joy is complete. Amen.
