The New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:14–17
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

Paul begins with the love of Christ compelling us. New creation does not arise from self-reinvention but from the crucified and risen Lord who has taken hold of us.
One died for all; therefore those who live no longer belong at the center of their own existence. Christ’s death and resurrection establish a new purpose: to live for Him.
This changes how we regard people. We no longer know anyone merely according to outward status, history, usefulness, failure, or reputation.
Even our understanding of Jesus must pass beyond merely human categories. The risen Christ cannot be contained as an inspiring teacher from the past; He is Lord of the new age.
If anyone is in Christ, new creation has begun. Paul does not say the Christian is simply repaired or encouraged. God’s promised future has entered the present person.
The old has passed away and the new has come, though its completion still awaits resurrection. We live in the overlap: genuinely renewed while still learning to put away old ways.
Identity in Christ makes repentance hopeful. Sin can be named without becoming our final name, because the Creator is actively making His people new.
Live today from the future Christ has opened. See another person through resurrection hope, refuse an old pattern, and practice the life of the new creation now.
In Conversation with C. S. Lewis
Lewis contrasted Christianity’s goal with producing more agreeable versions of the old self. God intends a new kind of person sharing the life and likeness of Christ.
Paul declares that this divine work has already begun through union with Jesus. New creation is not an imaginative ideal but the result of His death and resurrection.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Lord Jesus, let Your compelling love displace my self-centered life.
Teach me to see people beyond outward judgment and to receive my identity within Your new creation. Give me courage to put away what belongs to the old.
Make my ordinary choices signs that resurrection life has entered the present world. Amen.
