Be Transformed
Romans 12:1–2
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Paul’s call to a renewed mind begins with the mercies of God. Transformation is not a project undertaken to persuade God to receive us; it is our grateful response to grace already given in Christ.
We offer our bodies as living sacrifices. The Christian mind is never detached from embodied life. What we think becomes visible in habits, words, appetites, schedules, and relationships.
The surrounding age continually offers us a mold. It teaches us what to fear, desire, celebrate, and condemn, often before we notice that our imagination has been trained.
Paul does not tell us merely to resist. He points toward transformation—the Spirit’s work of remaking the inner patterns from which our choices grow.
Renewal comes as Scripture exposes falsehood and reveals reality in Christ. We learn to name good and evil by God’s character rather than popularity, impulse, or self-interest.
This change reaches deeper than becoming outwardly respectable. A polished old self can remain centered upon pride. Jesus does not simply decorate our existing life; He forms a new humanity in His likeness.
A renewed mind learns discernment. Instead of demanding a rule for every circumstance, it becomes increasingly able to recognize what accords with God’s good, pleasing, and perfect will.
Bring God the mind you actually have—distracted, defensive, curious, wounded, or proud. His mercy is large enough to begin there and patient enough to transform you from the inside out.

Lewis distinguished God’s purpose from merely making naturally agreeable people a little nicer. Christianity announces a new kind of life, received from Christ and gradually formed within us.
Romans 12 keeps this newness grounded in mercy, embodied surrender, and discernment. Transformation is neither self-invention nor cosmetic reform; it is life reordered under the lordship of Jesus.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Merciful God, I present my whole embodied life to You because Christ has first given Himself for me.
Expose the patterns of this age that have quietly shaped my thoughts. Renew my mind through Your Word and Spirit.
Do more than improve my outward behavior. Form the life of Jesus within me so that I may recognize and gladly choose Your will. Amen.
