Christ, the Wisdom of God
1 Corinthians 1:18–31

The cross overturns the world’s definitions of wisdom and power. What appears weak and shameful becomes the very place where God defeats sin and reconciles sinners to Himself.
Some demand signs that compel belief; others seek a system impressive enough to master. Paul offers neither spectacle nor flattering philosophy. He proclaims Christ crucified.
God’s wisdom is not an abstract secret reserved for the clever. It is a Person given for us—Jesus Christ, who enters our ruin, bears our judgment, and rises in victory.
At Calvary, divine power does not resemble domination. The Son conquers through obedient love, exposing every human boast and opening salvation to all who believe.
This wisdom humbles the mind without asking us to stop thinking. It frees reason from pride so that reality may be received as God has revealed it rather than remade around the self.
Paul reminds the Corinthians that God chose what the world calls foolish and weak. Grace forms a people whose existence cannot finally be explained by status, talent, or achievement.
Christ has become for us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. Everything the soul lacks is found not in self-improvement but in union with Him.
Bring your need to the crucified Lord. Let the cross correct what you call success, strength, and wisdom, until your only boast is grateful delight in Him.
In Conversation with C. S. Lewis
Lewis reflected that fallen people need repentance while being unable to offer it perfectly from their own strength. The sinless Christ shares His life with us and enables the surrender we could not complete alone.
Paul takes us to the center of that mystery: the crucified Christ is not merely a teacher of wisdom but God’s wisdom and power personally given to save.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Crucified and risen Lord, forgive my desire for wisdom that leaves my pride intact.
Teach me to see Your cross as the power and wisdom of God. Become in me righteousness, holiness, and redemption that I could never produce.
Empty my boasting and fill me with grateful confidence in You alone. Amen.
