Week 26

None but Jesus

Psalm 73:23–28

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.”

Psalm 73:23–28 (NKJV)

Psalm 73 begins in envy and disorientation, but the sanctuary teaches the psalmist to see prosperity and suffering within eternity.

Near the end, he discovers that even while his heart was bitter, God held his right hand.

Faithfulness began with God’s grasp before it became the psalmist’s clear confession.

Flesh and heart may fail. The promise is not endless personal capacity, but God as the strength of the heart and portion forever.

To say ‘none but Jesus’ does not erase love for family, church, creation, or daily gifts. It frees them from being asked to become God.

Every lesser portion can be removed, changed, or exhausted. The Lord gives Himself and therefore remains when circumstances cannot.

Nearness to God becomes the psalmist’s good. From that nearness comes testimony: he will declare all God’s works.

Bring envy, grief, and failing strength into the sanctuary. Let God hold you until desire remembers its deepest home in Him.

In Conversation with Richard Wurmbrand

Solitary confinement stripped away many ordinary sources of consolation, making Wurmbrand’s reflections intensely concerned with God Himself.

The psalmist gives this longing biblical shape: the believer’s final portion is not an explanation, escape, or possession, but the nearness of God.

A Prayer

Lord Jesus,

God of my heart, hold me when understanding and strength fail.

Purify desire without making me ungrateful for Your gifts. Become again my lasting portion and highest good.

Draw me near, then send me to declare Your works with humility and love. Amen.

Stand with Christ This Week

Faithfulness begins here.

Return often to Psalm 73:23–28. Let courage grow from a clearer vision of Christ, never from confidence in yourself.

Ask prayerfullyWhich gift have I been asking to function as my lasting portion? What practice helps me seek God Himself rather than only relief from Him?
