Do Not Fear Those Who Kill
Matthew 10:26–33
“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.”

Jesus sends vulnerable disciples into opposition and speaks directly to fear. He does not deny what persecutors can do to the body.
He places their power inside a greater reality. Human violence is terrible but limited; it cannot reach beyond God’s final authority or sever the believer from Christ.
Jesus redirects fear toward reverence for God. This is not panic before a cruel deity, but sober recognition that the Creator’s judgment matters more than every temporary verdict.
Then He speaks of sparrows and numbered hairs. The sovereign Judge is also the attentive Father whose care reaches details too small for us to count.
‘Do not fear’ therefore rests neither on personal toughness nor guaranteed escape. It rests on the worth and knowledge of the Father.
Jesus calls His followers to confess Him before others. Small habits of honest identification with Christ prepare the heart against the slow erosion of shame.
Some believers face mortal danger; many others face ridicule, exclusion, or loss. We must not equate these costs, but the same Lord teaches each disciple where security lies.
Bring the feared consequence into the Father’s presence. Remember your worth to Him, confess Christ without performance, and entrust both body and future to His care.

Jesus does not ask us to admire suffering. He frees witnesses from captivity to fear by revealing both the limits of human power and the intimate care of the Father.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Father, You know every sparrow and number every hair. Hold me where fear magnifies human power and forgets Your care.
Give me reverence that orders every lesser fear. Teach me to confess Christ truthfully without exaggerating my courage or minimizing another’s suffering.
Keep body, soul, and future in Your faithful hands. Amen.
