Speak the Truth in Love
Ephesians 4:11–16
“Speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.”

Christ gives leaders to equip all the saints for ministry, so that the entire body grows toward maturity. The church is not built by a few performers but by every member serving under its Head.
Immaturity leaves people vulnerable to every wind of teaching and every persuasive scheme. Truth stabilizes the body by rooting it in the revealed Christ.
Yet truth must be spoken in love. Accuracy without love can become a weapon; affection without truth can leave people captive to confusion. In Christ, firmness and tenderness meet.
Speaking begins with listening—to Scripture, to the Spirit’s wisdom through the church, and to the person before us. Otherwise we may answer questions they are not asking or correct wounds we have not understood.
Love seeks another’s maturity, not our victory. It chooses fitting time, proportionate words, honest tone, and the humility to remain open to correction.
The passage extends beyond difficult conversations. Encouragement, testimony, teaching, confession, and naming God’s promises are all ways truth circulates through the body.
Every joint supplies something. A timely word from an apparently quiet member may strengthen the whole church when offered faithfully.
Let Christ, the Head, govern both content and manner. Speak what serves growth, receive what you need to hear, and trust love-shaped truth to help the body build itself up.

Bonhoeffer placed proclaiming after the ministries of holding one’s tongue, listening, helpfulness, and bearing. Speech becomes trustworthy when it arises from patient service rather than the urge to dominate.
The Christian speaks as one standing beneath the same Word. The aim is not personal triumph but a brother or sister’s freedom and maturity in Christ.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Christ our Head, mature Your body in truth and love.
Guard my words from cowardice, harshness, haste, and pride. Teach me to listen well, speak fittingly, and receive correction humbly.
Use every member to supply what strengthens the whole, until our life together increasingly resembles You. Amen.
