Week 27

Let the Word Dwell in You

Colossians 3:12–17

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another.”

Colossians 3:12–17 (NKJV)

Paul does not ask us merely to visit the Word, consult it occasionally, or keep it nearby for emergencies. He tells us to let the word of Christ dwell within us—to take up residence and shape the household of the heart.

It must first enter. Scripture cannot govern a life that remains unopened, unheard, or hurried past. We receive it through attentive reading, faithful teaching, thoughtful meditation, and remembered truth.

The Word is to dwell richly, not sparsely. A few familiar phrases are precious, but Christ invites us into the abundance of the whole counsel of God, where promise, warning, wisdom, history, poetry, gospel, and hope belong together.

Paul calls it the word of Christ because Scripture comes through Him and leads toward Him. Christ is not a decorative theme added to the Bible; He is its center, fulfillment, and living Lord.

An indwelling Word reshapes community. Believers teach and admonish one another—not from superiority, but as people sharing a treasure. Truth becomes a ministry we receive and give.

It also becomes song. When grace fills the heart through the Word, gratitude seeks expression. Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs carry truth from the mind into the affections and from one generation to another.

The passage ends by gathering every word and deed beneath the name of Jesus. Scripture is not meant to occupy a devotional corner while the rest of life follows another authority. It learns to speak within work, family, conflict, rest, and service.

Make room this week. Read slowly enough for one truth to remain with you. Welcome it beyond the doorway of attention and let the word of Christ become at home in you.

A Voice from Charles Spurgeon

“They speak to you of Christ, that he is the sum and substance of them.”

Spurgeon directs our reading toward the person of Jesus. Scripture is treasured not as information alone, but as the Word that reveals and brings us to Christ.

The more richly it dwells within us, the more naturally our lives begin to speak His name.

A Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Lord Jesus, make room within me for Your Word. Forgive the hurry, distraction, and competing voices that have kept it near the surface.

Let Scripture dwell richly in my memory, judgment, affection, speech, and relationships. Help me receive truth humbly and share it gently.

May everything I do in word or deed bear Your name with gratitude. Amen.

Spend This Week with Christ

There is no hurry.

Return often to Colossians 3:12–17. Read it slowly, in the morning and again before sleep. Carry its words into the ordinary places of your week.

Ask prayerfullyWhich competing voice has been occupying the place Scripture should hold? What one truth from this passage can I carry into the ordinary moments of this week?

The purpose is not merely to finish the reading, but to behold Christ more clearly and walk with Him more closely.
