Week 15

Cast Your Cares on Him

1 Peter 5:6–11

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

1 Peter 5:6–11 (NKJV)

Some burdens can be carried in the hands. Others are carried invisibly: a name we cannot stop thinking about, a decision without a clear answer, a future we cannot secure. Peter calls all of it care and tells us where it may be placed.

The invitation begins with humility. We cast our cares upon God because we have accepted that we are creatures, not sovereigns. Anxiety often attempts to perform work that belongs to providence—to foresee everything, control everyone, and guarantee tomorrow.

Casting is deliberate. The burden may not fall from our shoulders merely because we wish it gone. We name it before God, release our demand to control its outcome, and entrust it to the wisdom and power that govern all things.

The reason is wonderfully personal: He cares for you. Scripture does not say only that God can manage the burden. It says that the One who receives it is attentive to the person carrying it.

His care is not hurried, divided, or anxious. God bears the concerns of all His children without becoming overwhelmed. What exhausts our narrow minds rests easily within His perfect wisdom.

Peter joins this invitation to watchfulness. The enemy would use anxiety to distract, isolate, and devour. A mind consumed with imagined futures becomes less awake to present grace and present obedience.

Casting care does not mean neglecting responsibility. It means doing today’s faithful work without trying to occupy God’s throne. We can make the call, seek counsel, keep the appointment, and then leave the results with Him.

Some cares return after we have cast them. When they do, return them again. Repeated surrender is not failed faith; it is the daily rhythm of dependence upon the Father who has not stopped caring for you.

A Voice from Charles Spurgeon

“Our anxiety and God’s care are two very different things.”

Spurgeon distinguishes the care that wears us out from the care that watches over us. We release the first because we are held within the second.

God is never asking us to become indifferent. He invites us to exchange anxious control for active trust.

A Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Father, I bring You the cares that have occupied my thoughts and tightened my heart. I cannot carry them wisely without You.

Forgive my attempts to control what belongs in Your hands. Show me today’s responsibility, protect me from anxious distraction, and help me leave every outcome with Your wisdom.

Thank You that Your care is stronger, steadier, and more tender than mine. I cast these burdens upon You because You care for me. Amen.

Spend This Week with Christ

There is no hurry.

Return often to 1 Peter 5:6–11. Read it slowly, in the morning and again before sleep. Carry its words into the ordinary places of your week.

Ask prayerfullyWhat burden do I need to name and deliberately place in God’s hands? What is today’s faithful responsibility—and what outcome must I release?

The purpose is not merely to finish the reading, but to behold Christ more clearly and walk with Him more closely.
