Christ in You, the Hope of Glory
Colossians 1:24–29

Paul gathers the mystery of the gospel into a few astonishing words: Christ in you. Christianity is not merely instruction from a distant teacher or admiration of a historical Savior. The risen Christ makes His home in His people by the Spirit.
The essence is Christ. Our hope does not rest in spiritual sophistication, moral improvement, or an unusually strong inner life. Everything begins and ends with the person and work of Jesus.
The sweetness is Christ in you. He enters the poverty of our nature knowing it completely, not as a temporary guest but as the Lord who intends to remain and make us His dwelling.
His presence transforms from within. Patience, courage, purity, and love are not decorations fastened to the outside of an unchanged self; they grow as the life of Christ becomes visible in ordinary obedience.
Paul labors to present everyone mature in Christ. The indwelling Savior does not make effort unnecessary. He supplies the energy by which we struggle against sin, serve the church, and help others grow.
The outlook is glory. Christ within is the beginning and guarantee of what will one day be complete. The life now hidden with Him will be revealed when He appears.
Hope is therefore more than optimism about circumstances. The future is secure because its substance is already present: the Christ who will receive us into glory lives within us now.
Do not measure this hope by the strength of today’s feeling. Welcome His Word, yield to His Spirit, and remember the mystery: Christ is in you, and He will finish what His grace has begun.

“The essence of it is ‘Christ’; the sweetness of it is ‘Christ in you’; and the outlook of it is ‘the hope of glory.’”
Spurgeon’s threefold summary keeps the gospel centered upon Jesus. Christ is its substance, His indwelling presence is its present gift, and likeness to Him in glory is its certain future.
Our hope is strong because Christ Himself is both its beginning and guarantee.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Lord Jesus, You are the mystery, riches, and glory of the gospel. Thank You for drawing nearer than I could have imagined.
Make Your life visible within me. Supply strength for every struggle, mature what remains unfinished, and keep me from building hope upon myself.
Let the certainty of coming glory fill today with courage, holiness, and joy. Amen.
